Should All Movies Promote Like Anchorman 2 Has?

Have you seen all the crazy stuff Will Ferrell has been doing in order to promote his new film, Anchorman 2? Holy smokes! Talk about PR worthy material, Ferrell is really going all out. Ferrell has been known for his crazy stunts and wacky antics for a while now, however, he has really gone above and beyond this time.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is the sequel to the widely popular and absolutely hilarious Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. It continues the adventures of a very famous news anchor named Ron Burgundy, who gets into all kinds of ridiculous shenanigans with his fellow news team, including reporter in the field Brian Fantana, Champ Kind with sports, and weatherman Brick Tamland. Comedy ensues.

Now, here are some of the crazy things Will Ferrell did in order to promote the film. From the very start, when he first announced there would be an Anchorman 2, he made a big scene out of the announcement He went onto Conan as Ron Burgundy and made the announcement in character on television. Now that the film is finished being made and will be released soon, Will Ferrell is doing all kinds of publicity stunts in order to garner more attention to the film. Everything from doing several TV spots for the Dodge Durango in character, to showing up to a news station in Bismark, North Dakota and reading the news, in character, with the lead anchor. That’s right, Bismark, North Dakota. Ferrell showed up to the news studio completely in character and actually read Bismark’s real news with them.

Will Ferrell even went as far as to write an entire book as Ron Burgundy explaining the life of Ron Burgundy up until his point. A sort of faux autobiography if you will. The man is pure genius and it is, of course, doing the film wonders publicity wise. Everywhere I turn I see another ad for Anchorman 2 or hear someone talking about how excited they are for Anchorman 2.

The question is…should more movies begin advertising this way? My answer is no, as it seems this is more mutually exclusive to Will Ferrell. Ferrell can do it with his zany and outrageous attitude, but I’d like to see Brad Pitt try the same thing.

P. S. I love scotch, scotchy scotch scotch!
